A Quarter Gallery is a feature found at the stern of a ship from the 16th to 19th century, placed on either side of the officers’ quarters in the sterncastle. They were often highly decorated with wood carvings and, during boarding actions, they could be used as a firing platform for marines and sharpshooters.
